Women’s Basketball Loses at Air Force, 73-50

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – Utah State women's basketball fell on the road to Air Force, 73-50, on Wednesday night at Clune Arena.

The Aggies began the game with momentum as sophomore guard Elise Livingston hit a pair of 3-pointers in the opening quarter to lead the way. Senior guard Karyn Sanford also added a pair of buckets, converting on an and-one opportunity, and added three assists in the first quarter to help USU build a 14-11 advantage late in the frame. From there, the Falcons locked in defensively for the remainder of the first half. Offensively, Air Force hit four 3-pointers in the second quarter, collectively powering a 21-6 run to grab a 32-20 lead heading into halftime.

USU's offense returned to form in the third quarter, scoring 14 points in the paint during the frame led by junior guard Aaliyah Gayles with five points in the quarter and sophomore forward Macie Brown adding a pair of buckets. The Falcons, however, also maintained their offensive output with another four 3-pointers coming out of halftime to extend their lead to 55-35 entering the fourth quarter where the Aggies were unable to build a comeback attempt before the final buzzer.

Livingston led USU with 12 points while hitting a pair of 3-pointers alongside two rebounds and a steal. Sanford added 10 points plus four rebounds and three assists. Gayles added five points plus team-highs of seven rebounds and four assists. Brown ended with a career-high eight points on 4-of-6 shooting plus four rebounds.

The Aggies shot 34.7 percent (17-of-49) from the field, 23.5 percent (4-of-17) from 3-point range and 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from the free throw line. The Falcons ended with marks of 36.9 percent (24-of-65) from the field, 50.0 percent (11-of-22) from behind the arc and 77.8 percent (14-of-18) from the FT line. USU held a 26-20 edge in points in the paint and 18-10 in bench scoring while AF held advantages in rebounding, second-chance points and points off turnovers.
