EUGENE, Oregon - Utah State men's tennis earned a 5-2 win over Portland in a neutral match on Saturday evening at the Student Tennis Center.
 
Doubles 
The Pilots made the first move in doubles play, claiming a 6-2 win at the first position. The Aggies answered, however, with wins at both courts two and three to secure the doubles point. At the third position, senior Jean-Baptiste Badon and sophomore Eemil Pasanen earned a 6-3 win, setting the stage for sophomore Xavier Calvelo and freshman Emmanuel Alex to clinch the point with a 6-4 win at the second position.

Singles 
Calvelo maintained the momentum for USU to begin singles play, giving the Aggies a 2-0 lead with a win at the second position, 6-3, 6-3. The Pilots then squared the match with back-to-back wins at the fifth and first positions. All three remaining matches went a full three sets. Sophomore Dmitri Goubin, making his dual match season debut, again put USU in front with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles. Sophomore Eliot Nobel then won the race to provide the clinching point, winning at the third position, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, to secure the team victory. At No. 4 singles, sophomore Roman Venger further solidified the Aggie win with a 7-6 (5), 1-6, 7-5 victory.

Next Up
Utah State heads to Los Angeles for a pair of matches next weekend, taking on UC Davis on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 10 a.m., before a matchup with LMY on Sunday, Feb. 15, at noon.
