ST GEORGE, Utah – Utah State softball (10-10, 0-0 MW) fell on the third and final day of the Beehive Classic Sunday afternoon at Karl Brooks Field, losing to tournament-host Utah Tech 4-0.
Strong defense and a great effort in the circle from a pair of freshman pitchers wasn't enough for the Aggies, as they struggled to generate offense throughout, recording just three hits in the team's second shutout loss of the season.
All four of Utah Tech's runs came in the third inning, while half of its 10 hits came in that inning as well. First, it was an RBI double with one out on the board. The Aggies quickly recorded the inning's second out with a strikeout, but then back-to-back hits, a 2-RBI double and an RBI base hit followed to make it 4-0.
Freshman right-hander Kendall Cochran started the game and threw the first 2.2 innings with seven hits and four earned runs while facing 14 batters. She was relieved in the third by freshman lefty Jordyn Lish, who closed the final 3.1 innings strong with just three hits and no earned runs while striking out three of the 13 batters she faced.
