LOGAN, Utah – Utah State softball (10-14, 0-0 MW) dropped its home opener to Idaho State, 13-2, in five innings on Tuesday afternoon at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field.
The Aggies peppered the base-paths with runners in the first two innings but were unable to break the deadlock. ISU then opened the scoring with five runs in the third before keeping the pressure on with another six runs in the fourth.
After the Bengals scored another two runs in the top of the fifth, USU got on the scoreboard with a solo home run by sophomore outfielder
Faith Kroening, her first of the season. Following a pair of singles by senior catcher/infielder
Grace Matej and freshman infielder
Jazmin Ramirez, the Aggies brought another run home via a sacrifice fly by senior outfielder
Kya Pratt. The rally came up short, however, as ISU sealed the five-inning victory with a pair of fielder's choice outs.
Senior pitcher
Rylie Pindel began the game in the circle for USU, recording 3.0 innings pitched with one strikeout and six runs allowed. Feshman pitcher
Kendall Cochran recorded 0.2 innings pitched with one strikeout and five runs allowed while freshman pitcher
Jordyn Lish recorded one out while facing two batters. Senior pitcher
Carly Limosnero finished out the game in the circle for USU with 1.0 innings pitched and two runs allowed.
