Game Recap: Softball |

FRESNO, Calif. – Utah State softball (12-15, 2-1 MW) dropped its third and final game of the weekend at Fresno State on Sunday, falling 6-2 at Margie Wright Diamond in Fresno. Despite the loss, the Aggies came out on top in the series 2-1.

The game started with back-to-back scoreless and hitless innings, before the Bulldogs put the first run of the day up in the third inning, an RBI double to left field. The Aggies countered on the very first pitch of the fourth when senior infielder Alex Bunton cleared the right center field fence with her third home run of the season.

Fresno State pulled back ahead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, before tacking on three more in the fifth to go up 6-1. The Aggies recorded at least one hit in the third, fourth and sixth innings, but were unable to generate another run. USU had a chance to rally in the seventh as Fresno State mistakes compounded. Following a hit by pitch by sophomore outfielder Faith Kroening, an RBI triple from senior outfielder Kya Pratt scored Kroening to cut the deficit to four. Another hit by pitch, followed by a walk, loaded the bases and brought the tying run to the plate, but a pop up ended the comeback attempt.

Pratt accounted for half of USU's four hits, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple.

In the pitching circle, the Aggies utilized three arms. Freshman Jordyn Lish started and went the first 3.1 innings with five hits and three earned runs allowed. Senior Rylie Pindel took the next 1.0 innings with two earned runs, and senior Sydney Saldaña threw the final 1.2 with one earned run.
