LOGAN, Utah - Facing off against the No. 61-ranked team in the nation, Utah State men's tennis earned a 4-0 sweep over UNLV to begin its Mountain West schedule on Friday afternoon at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club.

Doubles
The Aggies took immediate hold of the match with wins at the second and third positions of doubles play to take the doubles point. At the third spot, sophomores Eliot Nobel and Roman Venger dominated en route to a 6-2 victory while senior Jean-Baptiste Badon and sophomore Dmitri Goubin combined for a 7-5 win at the second spot to clinch the 1-0 lead to begin the match. At the top spot against the 58th-ranked doubles team in the nation, sophomore Xavier Calvelo and freshman Jakub Medved battled hard but ultimately fell, 7-5.

Singles
USU pressed their advantage into singles play, wrapping up the match with straight-set victories at courts two, three and six to complete the sweep. At No. 2 singles, Calvelo doubles Utah State's lead with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Goubin then put the Aggies up 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles. In the race to snatch the clinching point, Venger won out at court three with a 6-4, 6-4 win.

At No. 4 singles, Nobel managed a 6-4 first-set victory and trailed by only a single point in the second set in his own bid for a singles win. Medved also rebounded from a dropped first set at the fifth position to win 6-3 in the second set before the match was left abandoned. At No. 1 singles playing the nation's 61st-ranked singles play, Badon captured a 6-3 win in the first set and was locked in tight second set at the time the match was clinched.
