Match Recap: Men's Tennis |
LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's tennis moved to 2-0 in Mountain West play with their second-consecutive sweep to open conference action, defeating Nevada, 4-0, on Sunday at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club.

Doubles
Sophomore Xavier Calvelo and freshman Jakub Medved set the tone for USU with a 6-2 win at the top spot of the doubles lineup. The final two positions, however, were tightly contested down to the wire. At court two, senior Jean-Baptiste Badon and sophomore Dmitri Goubin outlasted their opponents for a 7-5 win to secure the doubles point for the Aggies. Sophomores Eliot Nobel and Roman Venger were tied, 6-6, and just beginning a tiebreaker at the third position when the match was left abandoned.

Singles
Utah State's  momentum continued in singles play as the Aggies won the first set at all six courts, eventually recording straight-set wins at the third, fourth and fifth positions to clinch the win. At No. 5 singles, Medved was the first Aggie to close out his match, winning, 6-4, 6-3. Nobel followed shortly afterward with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the fourth position to extend USU's lead to 3-0. Venger then won the race for the clinching point with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles.

At the top spot in the lineup, Badon was one point from victory with his match being abandoned while ahead, 6-4, 5-4. Calvelo was also ahead one set and battling in a second-set tiebreaker when the match was clinched. Goubin was in the early stages of a third set at No. 6 singles when the match was left unfinished.
