COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - Utah State men's tennis set a program record with its fifth-straight sweep, defeating Air Force, 4-0, on Sunday at the USAFA Outdoor Tennis Courts.
Doubles
The Aggies again started off strong to take the doubles point with wins at the first and second positions. At the top spot, sophomore
Xavier Calvelo and freshman
Jakub Medved overpowered their opponents to record a 6-1 victory. Senior
Jean-Baptiste Badon and sophomore
Dmitri Goubin then pulled through at the second position for a 6-4 win to clinch the match's first point for USU. At No. 3 doubles, sophomores
Eliot Nobel and
Roman Venger also led, 5-4, at the time the doubles point was clinched.
Singles
Utah State's momentum carried over to singles play as the Aggies won the opening set at every position of the lineup before recording straight-set victories at the first, second and fifth spots to complete the sweep. At No. 1 singles, Badon dispatched his opponent with a 6-3, 6-2 win before Calvelo followed shortly behind at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win to make it 3-0. Medved then secured the program record-breaking sweep with a 7-5, 7-6 (4) win at No. 5 singles.
All three remaining matches were left unfinished. Venger took his opening set at the third position, 6-4, and was battling late in the second set when the match was clinched. Nobel outlasted his opponent in a first-set tiebreak, 7-6 (5), and was also battling in the second set at No. 4 singles before the match was left unfinished. At the sixth position, Goubin won the first set, 6-2, before his match was left unfinished at the start of a third set.

Utah State wraps up a three-match road trip at San Diego State on Thursday, April 2, at 3 p.m. (MT), before returning to the Sports Academy & Racquet Club in Logan, Utah, to host No. 61 Grand Canyon on Saturday, April 4, at 11 a.m. (MT).
