Game Recap: Softball |

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State softball (18-27, 6-12 MW) fell in part two of a three-game series against San José State Saturday afternoon at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field, losing 10-5 to even the series at 1-1.

The Aggies took an early lead in this one, getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning as a leadoff hit by pitch for sophomore outfielder Faith Kroening followed by a stolen base was followed by an RBI double by senior infielder Alex Bunton. The sides played a scoreless second inning, before the Spartans took control with seven hits to score six runs in the third inning.

Utah State responded quickly with a big inning of its own, scoring three in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 6-4. After a leadoff base hit for Bunton and a double for senior outfielder Kya Pratt, senior infielder Kaylee Erickson delivered a sacrifice fly for the first run of the inning. Senior catcher Grace Matej followed with a home run to clear the bases and score two, the 26th homer of her career and her eighth of the year.

San José State then scored a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings, while holding the Aggies off the board in the fourth, fifth and sixth. USU's final run of the day came in the bottom of the seventh, when Matej cleared the right field fence for her second home run of the day.

The Aggies totaled 11 hits to SJSU's 15. Matej led the way with a 3-for-4 performance with two home runs, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Four different pitchers saw time in the circle for Utah State. Senior Carly Limosnero started and went the first 2.1 innings, before senior Rylie Pindel entered for the next 1.2. Freshman Jordyn Lish then pitched 1.1 innings, before senior Sydney Saldaña finished the contest.
