LOGAN, Utah – Utah State softball (19-31, 7-15 MW) wrapped up its final home series of Mountain West play Saturday at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field, falling on senior day to Colorado State 15-6 in five innings.
While the Aggies lost, several seniors came up big in their final home conference game. Utah State got down quickly in this one, giving up two runs in the first inning and eight more in the second. The team's first run came in the bottom of the second, courtesy of a fielder's choice RBI from sophomore catcher Jaelyn Castillo.
After allowing three more Ram runs in the third, USU put two more on the board with a two-run home run from senior outfielder Kya Pratt. Two more seniors belted home runs in the fourth, catcher Grace Matej leading off the inning with a solo shot and infielder Kenzee Olsen clearing the center field fence to score two more later in the inning. This was Olsen's second home run of the season.
USU totaled eight hits to CSU's 10, led by 2-for-3 performances at the plate from Pratt and Matej.
The Aggies utilized five pitchers, with senior Rylie Pindel starting and pitching the first inning, and freshman Kendall Cochran closing with the final 2.2 innings.
