Women’s Basketball Signs Lisa Thompson

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State head women's basketball coach Wesley Brooks announced the signing of Lisa Thompson on ​Wednesday.

"I have watched Lisa play since she was in eighth grade," Brooks said. "Lisa is an explosive athlete who can get to rim and finish, and can score at will when put in position to do so. Lisa is a two-way player whose best basketball is ahead of her. Lisa will step in right way and help us from day one."
 
Thompson, originally from Joliet, Illinois, comes to Utah State after spending her first three seasons at Missouri and Rutgers. This past season for the Tigers, Thompson appeared in 32 games and made 10 starts, averaging 3.9 points per game alongside 1.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists while helping Missouri earn a berth in the WBIT. Thompson scored a season-high 14 points in 15 minutes of play while adding two rebounds and an assist against Georgia. She notched 11 points and added four rebounds and three assists against Illinois and posted nine points and four rebounds against Kansas City. Thompson also reached double figures with 10 points plus five rebounds and three assists against Tulane and tied her career high with five assists against Vanderbilt.

Prior to Missouri, Thompson spent two seasons at Rutgers where she appeared in 58 games with 33 starts, averaging 5.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. As a freshman in 2023-24, Thompson recorded 10 or more points in nine contests on the year, including a career-best 17 points versus Northwestern. Thompson also twice hit 16 points against Saint Francis (PA) and Purdue, also recording a season-high six rebounds against Saint Francis (PA). Against La Salle, she posted 11 points alongside a career-high five assists. As a sophomore, Thompson scored a season-high 13 points against both Michigan and Penn State and recorded career-highs of nine rebounds in the season opener against Manhattan and three steals against both Marquette and Maryland.

Thompson finished her high school career at Example Academy in Frankfort, Illinois, where she led her team to the 2023 Independent National Championship. She was twice named the Herald News Player of the Year and an Illinois all-state honoree. Prior to her time at Example Academy, Thompson attended Joliet West High School, where she also guided her squad to three-consecutive conference championships. Thompson averaged double-digit points all four years of her high school career, including 23 points per game during her junior season, also averaging over five rebounds, three assists and four steals per game. Thompson was named a McDonald's All-American nominee as well as earning an invite to the USA Women's U17 World Cup Team Trials.
