LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's tennis alumnus Jean-Baptiste Badon secured his first career ATP point, winning a match in the main draw at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Lakewood SoCal Pro Series this week.

After earning a wild card entry into the tournament through a pre-qualifier, Badon defeated the tournament's No. 6 seed, Amit Vales of Israel in the opening round. Badon came back both from a first-set loss and from 4-1 down in the final set to earn the 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory. Badon's tournament run ended in the second round against Germany's Neo Niedner.

With the victory, Badon earned his first-ever ATP point and professional world ranking.

In his lone season at Utah State, Badon earned spots on the all-MW singles and doubles teams, leading the Aggies to Mountain West regular season and tournament titles while also earning MW Tournament MVP honors and recording the championship-clinching point in the title match against Boise State. Badon went an undefeated 6-0 in singles matches against MW competition, also leading a further four matches which were left unfinished, and reached the semifinals of the ITA Mountain Regional Championships, qualifying for the ITA West Sectional Championships. He was also named to the CSC Academic All-District Team.
