LAWRENCE, Kan. — Utah State soccer (0-1-0, 0-0-0 Pac-12) opened its 2026 campaign with a difficult road test against Big 12 competition Wednesday night, falling to No. 15 Kansas 2-0 at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence.
On an extremely hot and humid night in Lawrence, scoring opportunities were at a premium. While neither side was able to establish much offensive momentum in the first half, the Jayhawks were able to take early command in the 17th minute when, immediately following a hydration break, a misplaced ball by Aggies in their own box turned into a Kansas goal.
In the second half, USU limited the Jayhawks to just a single shot on goal while tallying a pair of their own, but the lone KU shot resulted in their second goal of the contest when an 84th minute strike found the top left corner of the net.
Utah State utilized eight reserves, while four Aggies — Mia Lopez, Victoria Espinoza, Kei Yoneda and Valeria Alcala — made their USU debut.
In total, Utah State recorded six shots to Kansas' 14, recording three shots on frame while allowing four. Junior forward Austin Miller led the squad with two shots, one of which was on net. Senior goalkeeper Allee Grashoff played all 90 minutes in net for the Aggies and made two saves in the contest.
