SALT LAKE CITY — Utah State soccer (3-1-1, 0-0-0 Pac-12) earned its third-straight shutout win and its second-straight shutout road victory over an in-state foe Thursday night at Ute Field in Salt Lake City, defeating Utah 1-0.
The difference in this one was a 76th minute goal from junior forward Ellie Hendrix, who was the hero for the second-straight match after also netting a game-winner on Monday in USU's 1-0 win at Utah Valley.
The first half was a defensive battle on both sides of the pitch, Utah State recording the only shot on goal of the first 45 minutes while the sides combined for just six total shots and generated one corner kick apiece.
While the defenses continued to shine in the second half, both keepers were tested as the Aggies tallied three more shots on goal following the break, while the Utes tallied two.
The Aggies broke the deadlock late in the second half when a shot from Summer Diamond in the 76th minute brought the Ute keeper off her line before taking a deflection off a defender. The deflection found the feet of Hendrix, who used a single touch to deliver the ball into the back of the net and put Utah State on top. Not only was this the second-straight game-winner for Hendrix, it was also her second-straight game against the Utes with a goal after she scored the team's lone goal when the sides met in 2025.
Sophomore keeper Ivy Nystrom posted the shutout in goal, her third-straight shutout in what was her third career appearance for the Aggies. She played all 90 minutes in net and registered a pair of saves.
