Utah State Softball Signs Abigail Carsley

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State head softball coach Kristen Zaleski announced the signing of transfer utility player Abigail Carsley on Monday. Carsley will join the Aggies as a junior for the 2027 season after beginning her career at Kansas then redshirting and playing last season at Portland State. 

Carsley, a native of McMinnville, Oregon, appeared in 46 games with 42 starts last season for the Vikings. She was primarily utilized at first base, catcher and as a pinch hitter. Carsley recorded 23 hits with five doubles, a triple, five home runs and 22 RBIs last season, going 26-for-115 (.226) at the plate. She also drew a team-best 20 walks on the year. Defensively, Carsley led the squad with 249 putouts to go along with 16 assists with seven errors for a .972 fielding percentage. 

As a true freshman at Kansas in 2024, Carsley saw the field in 21 games and made six starts for the Jayhawks. She produced four RBIs that season with two doubles and a home run off of seven hits. She also had 27 putouts and two assists for a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000. 

Carsley prepped at McMinnville (Ore.) High School, where she set Oregon high school season and career records with 20 home runs her senior season and 40 home runs in her career. During her prep career, Carsley totaled 40 home runs, 61 hits and 62 runs scored, with a .560 batting average and 65 RBIs. She earned numerous accolades her senior season in 2023, including Pacific Conference Player of the Year, First Team All-League Catcher, MHS Softball MVP, Margrett Kopf Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year, All-State Player of the Year and First Team All-State Catcher. She led her team to 6A Pacific Conference titles in 2021 and 2022, and was named first team all-league each season.
