LOGAN, Utah — No. 18 Utah State soccer (7-2-2, 0-0-0 Pac-12) closed out the nonconference portion of its 2026 campaign Sunday afternoon at Chuck & Gloria Bell Field in Logan, playing to a 1-1 draw against Saint Mary's.
In a matchup between the Aggies, keepers of the nation's longest home unbeaten streak (32 games entering the day) and the Gaels, owners of the nation's second-longest overall unbeaten streak (15 games entering the day), both streaks remained intact with the draw. Additionally, the Gaels entered the day ranking fourth nationally in goals against average (0.22) and second in shutout percentage, having held eight of their nine opponents without a goal.
While Utah State dominated possession throughout the contest and out-shot Saint Mary's 18-5 on the day, both of the afternoon's goals came from the penalty spot. The Gaels were held without a single shot for the first 36 minutes, but were able to capture a first-half advantage when a foul called at the edge of the penalty box set up a Saint Mary's penalty kick in the 37th minute, which it connected on.
The Aggies continued to control possession and create opportunities in the second half, but struggled to put shots on frame. Of USU's 12 second-half shots, just two were on goal.
USU seemingly evened the game up in the 86th minute when a shot went through the keeper's hands and was then scored by sophomore midfielder Mia Lopez, but after a video review, the goal was taken off the board. The Aggies continued to apply pressure, however, and with just 101 seconds left on the clock, drew a foul in the box to set up an 89th minute penalty kick. Lopez then got her goal from the penalty spot, calmly punching it into the bottom right corner of the net.
In total, Utah State out-shot the Gaels 18-5 and created six corners to SMC's two. Lopez, along with junior forwards Ellie Hendrix and Mia Mullenneister, led USU with three shots apiece.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ivy Nystrom played all 90 minutes in net for Utah State, making one save.

Utah State (7-2-2, 0-0-0 Pac-12) will host No. 18 Texas State in its first-ever Pac-12 matchup next week on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 7:30 p.m, at Chuck & Gloria Bell Field. The match will be streamed free on the Pac-12 YouTube channel.
