LOGAN, Utah – Utah State soccer sophomore midfielder Mia Lopez has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Sept. 20. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
With their sponsorship of the student-athlete of the week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.
Lopez, a native of Logan, Utah, helped Utah State to a 1-0-1 week with a 6-0 win at Idaho State on Thursday and a 1-1 draw versus Saint Mary's on Sunday. Against the Bengals, Lopez scored a goal in the 77th minute, playing 45 minutes in the contest and totaling three shots with one shot on goal. Against the Gaels, Lopez scored USU's lone goal of the game, an 89th minute penalty kick goal. She played 61 minutes and led the team with three shots in the match, including one shot on goal. On the week, Lopez totaled two goals, six shots and two shots on goal in 106 minutes on the pitch.

No. 18 Utah State (7-2-2, 0-0-0 Pac-12) has a week off before hosting No. 18 Texas State in its first-ever Pac-12 matchup on Thursday, Oct. 1, at Chuck & Gloria Bell Field. The match will kick off at 7:30 p.m., and will be broadcast on the Pac-12 YouTube page.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY – Senior Garrett Woodhouse (Oakton, Va.) ran a 24:20.1 in the 8K race at the Indiana State-hosted John McNichols Invitational. Woodhouse passed 12 runners in the final 3K stint to elevate himself to 33rd place in the meet. His efforts helped put the Aggies ahead of four top-30-ranked opponents en route to a 13th-place result in the team standings.
FOOTBALL – Junior safety Chapman Lewis (Fort Worth, Texas) had a career-high 11 tackles, including a career-best 1.0 tackles for loss, in Utah State's 33-0 loss at No. 17 Utah.
VOLLEYBALL – Sophomore setter Silina Damuni (Provo, Utah) led the Aggies with a trio of double-doubles as Utah State went 1-2 with a win over Utah Valley (3-1) and losses to Weber State (3-2) and 24th-ranked BYU (3-0). Damuni tallied 120 total assists on the week, averaging 10.0 per set. Against the Wildcats, Damuni set a career high with 48 assists and recorded 11 digs alongside two kills, a block and an ace. Against the Wolverines, Damuni tallied 46 assists and set new career highs with 13 digs and two aces, adding another two kills and a block. She finished out the week against the Cougars by posting 26 assists, tying her career high with 13 digs and again adding two kills.
WOMEN'S TENNIS – Sophomore Chahd Tourkhani (Tunis, Tunisia) went 5-0 across singles and doubles play to lead Utah State at the Colorado State-hosted Jon Messick Invitational. Tourkhani played alongside senior Tia Clemens in doubles where the duo recorded a pair of wins, defeating partnerships from Air Force (7-5) and Colorado State (6-3). In singles play, Tourkhani posted three more victories to win the Flight B draw. Tourkahni defeated Wyoming's Antonella Taco Villarreal, 6-4, 6-3, Colorado State's Diana Lizarazo, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5), and Air Force's Shivaani Selvan, 6-2, 6-4, to win the singles draw and complete her 5-0 weekend.
