LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men's basketball officially opened its 2026-27 season as USU held its first official practice inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Tuesday. The Aggies, under the direction of first-year head coach Ben Jacobson, are made up of four returners and 11 newcomers and took part in conditioning and various drills during the initial practice.
"It's great to be back. We really like being back to 20 hours per week," Jacobson said. "We've got a group of guys that really want to be in the gym, and now not only do our practices jump from an hour and 15 minutes up to two hours, we also get time during the day. I really enjoy that part of it."
USU appeared in the 2026 NCAA Tournament, posting a 29-7 record last season, the third-most wins in a season in program history, along with a 15-5 mark in Mountain West play to win the outright league title before going on to win the conference championship during its final season in the league. The Aggies then went on to win a game in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, defeating 8-seed Villanova 86-76, before falling to eventual national semifinalists Arizona.
This season will be the inaugural campaign for USU as a member of the Pac-12 Conference, along with former MW mates Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State and San Diego State, joining existing members Oregon State and Washington State, along with newcomers Gonzaga and Texas State.
The Aggies return four players from the 2025-26 squad including senior guard and reigning Mountain West Player of the Year Mason Falslev, senior forward and reigning MW Sixth Man of the Year Karson Templin, and the redshirt freshman duo of guard Brayden Boe and wing Kingston Tosi.
Utah State welcomes 11 newcomers to the 2026-27 roster, including nine transfers and two freshmen. Transfers include graduate guard Dallin Hall (Virginia), fifth year forward Connor Turnbull (Evansville), junior guard AJ Bates (Louisiana Tech), junior guard Solomon Callaghan (Wright State), junior forward Will Hornseth (Northern Iowa), junior forward Collin Mulholland (Chattanooga), junior center Sean Felts (Snow College, sophomore guard Ace Reiser (College of Southern Idaho) and sophomore center Bron Roberts (Snow College). Freshmen include guards Jax Allen (Eagle Mountain, Utah) and Jordan Boyd (St. Louis, Missouri).
Aggie fans will get an early glimpse of the 2026-27 squad as USU hosts Denver in an exhibition on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The team will also play exhibitions at Saint Mary's on Saturday, Oct. 17, and at home versus Santa Clara on Saturday, Oct. 24. Utah State officially opens the campaign hosting Idaho State on Monday, Nov. 2.
