Football’s Grady Brosterhous Named America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State quarterback Grady Brosterhous has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Sept. 27. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

With their sponsorship of the student-athlete of the week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.

It is the first time in his career Brosterhous has won the weekly award.

  • Accounted for 331 yards of total offense in Utah State's 21-10 non-conference home win against Troy last weekend.
  • Was 18-of-28 passing for a career-high 242 yards with a career-high-tying two touchdown passes to go along with one interception. His 18 completions are also a career high.
  • Rushed for a career-high 89 yards on 15 carries.

Nominees from other sports for USU Student-Athlete of the Week included:
Women's Cross Country – Senior Natalie Swain (South Jordan, Utah) was the Aggies' top finisher at the Missouri-hosted Gans Creek Classic as she set a personal best in the 6k running a time of 20:07.4. After crossing the 1k mark in 70th place, Swain surged ahead to climb 50 positions, making her way across the line in 20th. She was the Aggies' lead runner for the second race this season, helping the Aggies to a 10th-place team result in the meet.

Golf – Sophomore Jackson Pieratt (Phoenix, Ariz.) paced Utah State as he tied for 13th at 3-under 215 at the Air Force-hosted Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational last week. The transfer from Tennessee State began the tournament with an even par 72 and then carded a 4-under 68 during his second round on Sunday. It was his second round in the 60s this year. He concluded the tournament with a 1-over 73 during his final 18 holes. USU finished fourth overall out of 18 teams with a 6-under 858 (288-285-285).

Volleyball – Sophomore setter Silina Damuni (Provo, Utah) recorded 86 assists, averaging 12.29 per set as Utah State split its first week in the Pac-12 with a 3-0 loss at Texas State and a 3-1 home win against Gonzaga. She recorded her fourth-straight double-double against the Bobcats, finishing with 38 assists and 13 digs. Damuni then tied her career high with 48 assists in the win against the Bulldogs and set new career highs with five kills on a .400 hitting percentage while adding another five digs.

Men's Tennis – Junior Eliot Nobel (Stockholm, Sweden) went an unbeaten 4-0 in singles play as part of six total wins during Utah State's weekend at the Dar Walters Fall Classic in Boise, Idaho. Nobel recorded a pair of straight set wins against Idaho's Paul Janson (6-4, 6-3) and Portland's Cade Fernando (6-4, 6-1), while winning in three sets over Montana's Matt Upton (4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6)) and Portland's Tom Garcia (1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5)). In doubles action, Nobel played alongside freshman teammate Alvar Lange where the pair recorded wins against Idaho's Janson and Gabriel Moroder (6-3) and Portland's Garcia and Tannor Binder (6-2).

Women's Tennis – Sophomore Terezia Mlkva (Piestany, Slovakia) recorded five wins during Utah State's weekend at the Bedford Cup in Colorado Springs, Colo. In singles play, Mlkva won her consolation bracket after falling to the draw's third-seeded play but then reeling off wins against New Mexico's Yu Yun Tsai (7-6 (5), 6-3), Appalachian State's Naledi Manyube (1-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6)) and Wyoming's Silver Bijlsma (6-3, 6-3). Mlkva also recorded a pair of wins alongside senior teammate Tayla Wilmot in doubles play, notching wins over partnerships from Wyoming and Idaho, 6-2 and 6-4, respectively.
