INSIGHT ON GUNTHER: An athletic player who plays with great effort... A tough football player who loves contact.

2018 (SO): Appeared in three games… Had one tackle at Hawai’i (11/3) in his first action of the year and added a pass breakup against San José State (11/10)… Also played at Colorado State (11/17).

2017 (RS-FR): Played in 12 games and finished the season with 11 tackles (2-solo, 9-assist)… Had a career-high three stops at San José State (9/23), and two tackles each in back-to-back games against New Mexico (11/4) and Hawai’i (11/18)… Added tackles against Idaho State (9/7), Wake Forest (9/16), BYU (9/29) and UNLV (10/21).

2016 (RS): Redshirted during his first season at Utah State.

HIGH SCHOOL: Earned Utah Class 4A first-team all-state honors from both the Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News at defensive back as a senior at Woods Cross (Utah) High School as he recorded 120 tackles and intercepted two passes... Had seven double-digit tackle games, including a career-high 20 stops against Bountiful HS... Offensively, he rushed for 574 yards on 89 carries (6.4 ypc) and four touchdowns, and caught 15 passes for 239 yards (15.9 ypr) and one touchdown... Rushed for a career-high 118 yards on 16 carries (7.4 ypc) and one touchdown against Maple Mountain HS and had 100 yards on 13 carries (7.7 ypc) with a career-best two touchdowns against Mountain View HS... Earned first-team all-state honors from both the Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News at defensive back as a junior, as he finished the season with 62 tackles and three interceptions, which included a season-high 15 tackles against Highland HS and a career-best two interceptions against Judge Memorial HS... Rushed for 537 yards on 96 carries (5.6 ypc) and five touchdowns and caught 13 passes for 169 yards and one touchdown... An honorable mention all-state selection at defensive back as a sophomore from both the Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News as he recorded 74 tackles and three interceptions... Also carried the ball 108 times for 764 yards (7.1 ypc) and nine touchdowns, to go along with 13 receptions for 94 yards and one score... Had 15 tackles as a freshman.

PERSONAL: One of two children of Andy and Kathy Gunther... His dad played football at Snow College... Majoring in general studies.
