Biography

2020 (JUNIOR SEASON): Started all four games he played in… Finished the season 51-of-99 (.515) passing for 420 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, while adding 68 rushing yards on 33 carries (2.1 ypc)… Threw for a season-high 144 yards against Fresno State (11/14) as he was 9-of-24 passing… Also carried the ball a season-high 12 times for eight yards against the Bulldogs… Was 15-of-27 passing for 96 yards, including a 4-yard touchdown, against Nevada… Also rushed for 46 yards on seven carries against the Wolf Pack… Was 13-of-21 passing for 88 yards, including a season-long 37-yard completion for a touchdown, against San Diego State (10/31)… Rushed for 22 yards on five carries against SDSU, as well… Completed 14-of-27 passes for 92 yards and rushed for four yards on nine carries against Boise State (10/24) in the season opener.

PREVIOUS SCHOOL: Spent three seasons at Utah, where he redshirted in 2017 and played in 19 games the past two years, which included five starts... Overall, he produced 1,428 yards of total offense with 1,205 passing yards and 223 rushing yards... Was 3-2 as a starter in 2018 and finished the season 98-of-168 (.583) passing for 1,162 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions... Also carried the ball 63 times for 192 yards (3.0 ypc) with three touchdowns... Passed for a career-high 302 yards (27-of-45) and two touchdowns against Northwestern in the Holiday Bowl… Was 18-of-31 passing for 262 yards and 22 yards rushing with two touchdowns in first career start against Oregon… Passed for 221 yards and two touchdowns against Colorado… Passed for 141 yards and a touchdown with a season-high 61 rushing yards and a 33-yard touchdown run vs. BYU... Earned honorable mention all-academic honors from the Pac-12.

HIGH SCHOOL: Ranked as the 12th-best dual-threat quarterback in the nation by 247Sports.com and 27th by ESPN at Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas... Two-time honorable mention all-state… Two-time All-District MVP and a unanimous 9-5A pick in 2015 and the 13-5A MVP in 2016… Two-time All-District Offensive Newcomer of the Year (10-3A in 2013 and 9-5A in 2014)… First-team all-area in 2015… During his senior season, he passed for 2,975 yards (195-of-306) and 24 touchdowns, and rushed 180 times for 629 yards and 20 touchdowns... As a junior, he threw for 3,716 yards (233-of-371) and 39 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,661 yards (295 attempts) and 21 touchdowns... And during his sophomore season, he had 2,081 yards passing and 21 touchdowns and 873 yards rushing with 13 touchdowns... Led Lone Star HS to a state runner-up finish in 2015… Named Dallas Morning News Offensive Player of the Week after accounting for seven touchdowns (two passing, five rushing) and accumulating more than 500 yards (316 passing, 204 rushing) in a triple overtime state semifinal win over Lake Dallas HS… Also played baseball and basketball… A two-time All-District 9-5A outfielder who earned first-team honors as a junior… Was named the 10-3A All-District baseball Newcomer of the Year inm 2013.

PERSONAL: Son of Jason and Janine Shelley… Father played wide receiver for NFL Europe, the XFL and the AFL… Has one brother and one sister… His grandfather, Phillip Shelley, played football at Utah State in 1971... Is majoring in anthropology.
