Cooper Bassett is in his second year as Utah State’s offensive line coach and first as co-offensive coordinator. Bassett, who has 10 years of collegiate coaching experience, has been a part of two divisional championship teams and has coached in four bowl games.
In his first year at Utah State, Bassett helped the Aggies to six wins and an appearance in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, which was its third-straight bowl game and 11th in the last 13 seasons. With Bassett on staff, the Aggies led the Mountain West and ranked 25th in the nation in total offense (438.6 ypg). USU was also 26th nationally in scoring offense (33.2 ppg), 30th in rushing offense (184.4 ypg) and 43rd in the nation in passing offense (254.2 ypg).
Bassett came to Utah State after spending the 2022 season as the offensive line coach at Sam Houston State, where the Bearkats rushed for an average of 162.3 yards per game (4.4 yards per attempt) and allowed just 18 sacks in nine outings to rank first in the Western Athletic Conference in sacks allowed and second in rushing offense. At SHSU, Bassett coached Jordan Boatman to second-team all-conference honors.
Prior to Sam Houston State, Bassett spent the 2021 season directing the offensive line at Southeast Missouri, where his unit helped pave the way for a 1,000-yard rusher in Geno Hess. Bassett also coached a pair of offensive linemen to all-conference accolades in Nate Korte and Zack Gieg.
Bassett also spent four years (2017-20) as the offensive line coach at West Texas A&M, including two seasons as the running game coordinator.
In 2020, Bassett’s offensive line paved the way for a West Texas A&M offense that ranked 14th in the nation in rushing with 207.6 yards per game. The Buffs led the Lone Star Conference (LSC) in third (41.4 percent) and fourth down (58.3 percent) conversion percentage, and first downs (99). West Texas A&M ranked eighth nationally in first downs, as well.
Prior to that, the offensive line produced 363 yards in total offense per game during the 2019 campaign. Under Bassett’s tutelage, the Buffs rushed for 31 touchdowns, their most in a season in over a decade. West Texas A&M ranked first in the LSC and 15th in the nation in sacks allowed that year.
In 2018, Bassett coached a pair Lone Star Conference performers in Parker Hanna and Travis Vornkahl.
After completing his college career at Oklahoma State (2009-12), where the Cowboys compiled a record of 40-12, Bassett coached at Missouri and Maryland. He spent three seasons at Missouri, where the Tigers finished 23-5 and won back-to-back SEC East Division titles. And at Maryland, Bassett worked primarily with the offensive line during the 2016 campaign.
A native of Tuttle, Okla., Bassett was a four-year letterman and senior captain at Oklahoma State, where he played tight end and defensive line. He earned his bachelor’s degree in science from OSU in 2012 and master’s in education from Missouri in 2015.
Bassett and his wife, Samantha, are the parents of two sons, Bowen and Briar.
