Dave Wiemers (We-mers), a long-time head coach and coordinator in Division-II football, joined the Utah State coaching staff in July of 2024 as a senior defensive analyst.
 
Overall, Wiemers brings 25 years of collegiate coaching experience with him to Utah State, including six years as a head coach, 14 years as a defensive coordinator and five years as an offensive coordinator.
 
Wiemers came to Logan after serving as the defensive coordinator for the past two years at Webb City High School in Missouri. Prior to that, he was the offensive coordinator at Carthage (Missouri) High School for two seasons, helping the team to Central Ozark Conference Championships in 2021 and 2022, and a Class 5 District 6 Championship in 2022.
 
As a collegiate head coach, Wiemers most recently served as a coordinator at Pittsburg State in Kansas from 2008 through 2019, including the first two seasons as the offensive coordinator and the last 10 as the defensive coordinator. During his time at PSU, he also served as the assistant head coach for nine seasons (2011-19), helping the Gorillas to the NCAA Division II national title in 2011.
 
Wiemers moved to Pittsburg State after serving as the offensive coordinator for the 2007 season at Tarleton State.
 
Wiemers served as the head coach at Emporia State for six seasons (2001-06), compiling a 35-32 (.522) record and claiming the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) conference title in 2003.
 
Following a 5–6 record his first season; Wiemers led the Hornets to consecutive 9–3 years in 2002 and 2003. That two-year span included a victory in the 2002 Mineral Water Bowl and ESU's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Playoffs in 2003, earning him MIAA Coach of the Year honors. He is the fourth-winningest coach in program history.
 
Prior to being named head coach, Wiemers served as the offensive coordinator at Emporia State in the 1999 and 2000 seasons.
 
Wiemers began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Pittsburg State in 1992-93, before a four-year stint as the defensive coordinator at Saginaw Valley State in University Center, Michigan, from 1994-98.
 
Wiemers played quarterback at Dodge City (Kansas) Community College in 1987-88, before transferring to Washburn for his final two years. He graduated from Washburn in 1991 with a degree in secondary education and social studies.
 
Dave's brother, Jon Wiemers, is the head coach at Olathe West High School in Kansas City. His sister, Suzie Fritz, is the head volleyball coach for LOVB, a professional volleyball league in Omaha, Nebraska.
