HONORS: Second-Team Athlon College Football Preview Preseason All-WAC (2010)

2010 (RS): Appeared in three games and made two starts before suffering season-ending foot injury in third game of season... Carried the ball 24 times for 153 yards and two TD’s (51 ypg)... Also caught three passes for 23 yards... Posted season-highs in carries and rushing yards versus Idaho State with 12 rushing attempts for 86 yards. 

2009 (JR): Played in all 12 games, starting six... Had 46 carries for 304 yards (6.3 ypc)... The 6.3 ypc average would have ranked tied for third on USU’s single-season list but did not have the minimum 100 carries to qualify... Had 19 catches for 220 yards (11.6 ypc)... Scored four rushing TD’s to go with two receiving TD’s... Also added five kick returns for 109 yards (21.8 ypr) with a long of 29 yards... Top outing was eight carries for 100 yards (12.5 ypc) with two TD’s against Southern Utah, adding two catches for 60 yards with a 54-yard TD catch, which came in the first quarter for his first USU TD and was his longest catch of season... The two rushing TD’s were a 20-yard scamper and a 40-yard run, which was his longest of the season... The 100 rushing yards teamed with Robert Turbin’s 104 rushing yards for USU’s first running back tandem to both rush for 100 yards since 1989... Added two rushing TD’s against Boise State... Other TD catch was against Hawai’i... Season-long 29-yard kick return came at New Mexico State... Signed with USU in December, 2008 and participated in spring drills. 

JUNIOR COLLEGE: Earned all-Western States Football League honors at Eastern Arizona JC after posting 131 rushes for 1,002 yards (91.1 ypg) with 11 TD’s, helping the Gila Monsters to an 8-3 record... Ranked second in the WSFL for rushing yards and TD’s, while ranking third in ypg, carries and scoring... Selected to play in the Mexico Bowl All-Star game... Also earned second-team all-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference accolades... Posted 820 yards on 99 rushes with eight TD’s, ranking fifth in the WSFL in rushing yards and ninth in ypg with 74.5, helping EAJC to a 9-2 record as a freshman... Was teammates with current USU teammate Jamaine Olson. 

HIGH SCHOOL: Had 1,920 yards rushing on 274 carries (7.1 ypc/160.0 ypg) with 24 TD’s as a senior at Sunnyside HS, helping the Blue Devils to a 7-5 record... Added seven receptions for 59 yards... Also played linebacker... Was also a four-year letterwinner in track & field.  Personal: Born Aug. 9, 1988 in Tucson, Ariz... Son of Xavier, Sr. and Sheril Smith... Has five sisters and two brothers... Brother Xavier Smith, Jr., played football at the University of Arizona, graduating in 2009... Graduated in summer of 2011 with bachelor’s degree in finance and economics and is pursing master’s degree in education... Chose USU because of its academics and the football program.
