Bryce Crawford joined the Utah State men's basketball staff as an assistant coach in April of 2021, and enters his second year with the team in 2022-23.
As the primary coach of Utah State's guards during the 2021-22 season, Crawford saw junior guard Rylan Jones and sophomore guard Steven Ashworth finish among the top 10 in the Mountain West in assists per game and assist-to-turnover ratio. Jones was sixth in the MW with 4.5 assists per game and third with a 2.6 assist-to-turnover ratio. Ashworth was ninth in the league with 3.6 assists per game and fourth with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.5.
Crawford came to Logan after five seasons at UMBC under current USU head coach Ryan Odom. With the Retrievers, Crawford helped the squad to the America East Conference regular season title in 2020-21 along with three-straight 20-plus win seasons. Crawford was also a member of the coaching staff that mentored UMBC to an NCAA Tournament victory in 2018, upsetting top-seeded Virginia as a No. 16 seed, the first No. 16 seed to knock off a No. 1 seed in tournament history.
Crawford was also a member of Odom’s staff at Lenoir-Rhyne, serving as an assistant and helping the Bears to the NCAA Division II Regional Finals for the first time in school history. Lenoir-Rhyne finished the year 21-10, improving by 10.5 games from the previous campaign. Lenoir-Rhyne also led the nation in 3-point field goals made per game (12.4) and finished ninth in the country in scoring at 90.1 points per game.
Crawford joined Odom’s staff at Lenoir-Rhyne after a two-year stint at the University of Texas, serving as the team’s assistant video coordinator and technical assistant (2013-15). Crawford’s time at Texas was highlighted by a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances for the Longhorns.
Crawford and Odom initially crossed paths at Charlotte, where Crawford served as a graduate manager for the 49ers from 2011-13, earning his master’s degree in liberal studies.
Crawford graduated from Ohio State in 2011 with a degree in communication analysis and spent four years as a student manager for the Buckeyes’ men’s basketball program.
Crawford is married to the former Hallie Kloots and the couple have two daughters, Rian and Devyn, and a son, Keo.
