Biography

1994-95 SEASON (SR): Was one of the USU’s top reserves during his senior season, appearing in 27 of the team’s 29 games for an average of 22.9 minutes per contest… Averaged 7.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game… his 104 assists ranked second on the team, just one assist behind teammate Roddie Anderson… Made starts at Boise State (11/26), versus Long Beach State (1/19) and against UNLV (1/21)… In his start against Long Beach State, went for a career-high 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field and 5-of-9 shooting from the free throw line to go along with a career-high nine assists and four rebounds… Started out the year with a 12 point, four rebound, five assist game against Simon Fraser (11/18)… Scored in double-figures seven times on the year… Had six blocks, and ranked second on the team with 41 steals.
 
1993-94 SEASON (RS): Sat out the 1993-94 season as a redshirt after transferring from UConn.
 
PREVIOUS SCHOOL: Started off his career at UConn impressively, scoring 14 points in each of his first two games with the Huskies (against Purdue and North Carolina State on national television)… As the season progressed, his playing time dwindled and so did his numbers… Finished the ’92-’93 season averaging 4.3 points per game and scored in double figures on three other occasions.
 
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Transferred to Connecticut from Clarendon (Texas) Junior College… Was listed in Basketball Times as the first-team Junior College All-America lead guard following the ’91-’92 season… Averaged 21.2 points, 5.6 assists and 3.9 steals per game for Clarendon… Played two years at Clarendon.
 
HIGH SCHOOL: Played for head coach Cary Collins at Jennings (La.) High School… Selected to the all-district team his junior and senior seasons… Led his district in scoring as a senior with 24.3 points per game… Posted high game of 41 points while dishing out seven assists and making five steals… Also high jumped for Jennings’ track and field squad.
 
PERSONAL: The son of Norma Jean Cormier, Covington is the third of four children (Dexter and Renise are older siblings, Tanisha is the youngest)… A family human development major… Nickname is “Cupp”… Born April 14, 1972.
