Biography

1995-96 SEASON (SR): Earned his second-straight all-Big West first-team honor as he finished second in the league in rebounds with 8.6 per game and leading the Aggies in scoring rebounding in Big West play with 16.0 points and 9.0 boards per league contest… Reached double-figure scoring totals in all but three games of the season… Averaged 19.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game against Mississippi Valley State (12/28) and Southern Miss (12/29) during the Gossner Foods Classic as he was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player… His 25 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and 11-of-13 shooting from the free throw line was a season-high… Led the Aggies in scoring 10 times, while leading the team’s rebounding efforts on 16 occasions… Brought down a season-high 15 boards against Chaminade (12/18) to go along with 23 points… Had 12 double-doubles, including a stretch with five-straight… Shot a team-high 248 free throws, connecting on 148 of them (.596)… Finished the season shooting 52.0 percent (193-371) from the field… Moved to eighth on the USU all-time career rebounding list with 885… Was named to the GTE Academic All-American first-team, while also earning Academic All-Big West and Academic All-District accolades for the second consecutive season.
 
1994-95 SEASON (JR): Earned Big West Conference Player of the Year honors after leading the league in scoring (18.4 points) and field-goal percentage (.569)… Was named to the GTE Academic All-America Team (second) by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) with a 3.27 grade-point average in civil and environmental engineering… Also was listed on the Academic All-District Team… Scored in double-figures in all 29 games, including 11 20-point efforts, and registered 15 double-doubles… Also led the team in blocks (22) and minutes played (33.6 per game)… Captured Big West Conference Player of the Week (Jan. 3-8) honors after recording consecutive double-doubles against San Jose State (31 points and 11 rebounds) and Pacific (20 points to go along with 12 boards)… His tip-in with 5.5 seconds left gave Utah State its 58-57 victory at Pacific… Earned big West Player of the Week (Dec. 25-Jan 2) award after averaging 24.7 points and 9.3 rebounds while leading the Aggies to successive wins over Lewis-Clark State, Idaho State and Boise State… Hit 13-of-18 field-goal attempts on his way to a career-high 32 points in a 66-61 victory over Boise State before a national television audience on ESPN…Had 42 points and 19 rebounds in back-to-back games against Lewis-Clark State and Idaho State to earn Gossner Foods Classic MVP honors… Tossed in 30 points (11-15 from the field) and collected 10 rebounds vs. Utah… Had 25 points and 14 rebounds vs. Southern Utah… Was named Big West Player of the Week (Nov. 29-Dec. 4) after his 15-point, 16-rebound effort vs. BYU.
 
1993-94 SEASON (SO): A second-team All-Big West pick in 1993-94… Appeared in all 27 games, including 23 starts (16 at power forward and seven at center)… Finished second in the league in rebounding at 9.2 per game… Ranked as the team’s third-leading scorer (12.3 points) while hitting 53 percent (131-247) of his field-goal attempts… Averaged 12.7 points and 10.2 rebounds in Big West play to help Utah State to a second-place finish in the league standings at 11-7… Led the team with nine double-doubles, including five straight during one stretch… Scored in double figures 18 times, including four 20-point games… Tossed in a season-high 26 points at UC Irvine (11-17 from the field)… Had 22 points and 14 rebounds vs. UNLV as the Aggies ended a 25-game losing streak to the Runnin’ Rebels, 82-81, in overtime… Collected a career-high 19 rebounds (seven offensive boards) at UNLV… Stood second on the team in minutes played at 31.3 per game… Had a career-high six assists vs. Chadron State.
 
1992-93 SEASON (FR): Started 14 games as a rookie in 1990-91 and was named to the Big West all-freshman team… Averaged 5.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in 16 minutes per game… Posted high games of 15 points at Cal State Fullerton and six rebounds vs. BYU… Scored in double-figures three times and led the team in rebounding twice.
 
HIGH SCHOOL: Two-time first-team all-state selection… Averaged 28 points and 11 rebounds as a senior at American Fork (Utah) High School… Shot 65 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the free-throw line in 1989-90… Scored 43 points and pulled down 18 rebounds in the region championship game vs. Provo High School… Gained notoriety during the summer of ’90 as a member of the Utah prep all-star team by scoring 27 points against a touring Soviet Junior National Team… 
 
PERSONAL: Was a National Merit finalist in math… Served a two-year stint as an LDS missionary in the Italy Catania Mission (1991-93)… A Logan native, he has lived in Virginia, Arizona, Colorado and Nevada… One of five children of Jay and Gwyn Franson… Born Jan. 13, 1972… Married to the former Jenny McGregor of Logan… Majoring in civil and environmental engineering.
