Bailey Thomas

Bailey Thomas is in his fourth season as an assistant coach at Utah State, having joined the staff in October 2019.

In his current role, Thomas oversees the Aggie outfield. In 2021, he was given responsibility for all defensive instruction, game planning and in game adjustments along with assisting in hitting. Thomas also served as the travel, camp and compliance coordinator.

In his four year with Utah State, Thomas has helped coach seven players to all-conference honors, including the 2023 Mountain West Freshman of the Year in Jaden Colunga. 

In 2023, USU finished with an 18-26 overall record, including 9-13 in MW action. The Aggies batted .272, led by third baseman Claire Raley at .328 (44-of-134). USU also earned its highest single-term GPA in the fall of 2022.

In 2022, USU finished with a 28-28 overall record, including a 13-11 mark in MW play. USU batted .258 and was led by shortstop Lexi Orozco at .354 (52-of-147). The Aggies finished second in the league in doubles (68), while leading the conference in fielding double plays (29).

The 2021 Aggie squad posted a 14-30 overall record, including 4-17 in MW action. USU batted .251 and was led by second baseman Zaia Castruita at .315 (41-of-130). He helped the Aggies improve their field percentage to .963 in his first season as defensive coordinator. 

In his first season in the Utah State dugout, the team posted a 13-11 record before the remainder of the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Aggies batted .263 in the shortened season, led by outfielder Stephanie Reed at .382 (29-of-76).

A 2016 graduate of Utah State, Thomas previously spent two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach and team manager for the Aggies. In his role, Thomas assisted in practice and field preparations, travel logistics and game and practice film. 

After graduating from USU, Thomas completed an internship with the Idaho Falls Chukars, a Minor League Baseball Rookie Advanced League team. He also spent one season as a volunteer assistant coach with the University of Mary baseball team. Thomas worked as an underwriter for EMC Insurance, and was a supervisor for Premier Cleaning Services, both in Bismarck, N.D.

Thomas started his collegiate career at USU Eastern, where he played baseball. He then played on the Utah State club baseball team. 

Thomas and his wife, Heather, have a son, Brooks, and a daughter, Hennessy.
