PROVO, Utah - Utah State men's tennis falls to No. 70 Brigham Young, 7-0, in the first match of the 2009 spring season. The Aggies are now 0-1 on the season in dual match play.
Freshman Jordan Barlow battled to three sets but fell, 6-4, 0-6, 10-7, at number six singles against A.J. Young. In other singles action, Aggie sophomore Jakob Asplund, junior Amit Maharaj, sophomore Bryan Marchant, senior Mike Banks and junior Alex Thatcher fell in two sets.
In doubles play, Aspland and Marchant lose at the number one spot in a close set, 8-5, to BYU's Cassidy Mears and Thomas Shubert. In number three doubles, Banks and Barlow also fell, 8-4, to the Cougar's Georgy Batrakov and Daniel Hwang.
Utah State heads back to Logan where it will open the home portion of its schedule against Eastern Washington, Saturday, Jan. 17 at 10 a.m.
