LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's tennis team won, 5-2, Saturday against Northern Arizona at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club in Logan. USU improves to 3-3 on the season with the win.

The Aggies won both matches they hosted this weekend, sweeping Montana State Billings Friday.

"It was great to get another team win," USU head coach Christian Wright said. "They got the job done."

The Aggies took the doubles point winning at both number two and three spots. Juniors Alex Thatcher and Amit Maharaj won at the number two spot, 9-8, defeating NAU's Robin Pezzutto and Andrew Reiff. Senior Mike Banks and freshman Jordan Barlow paired up and defeated Berlin Powell and Ben Lantz, 8-6, at number three doubles.

In singles action, USU won at the number three through six positions. Sophomore Bryan Marchant won in a quick, 6-4, 6-3, match at number three singles while senior Mike Banks battled at number four and won, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, against NAU's Chris Arena. At number five singles Thatcher fought to a 7-5, 5-7, 6-0, win over Jaco Visagie while freshman Jordan Barlow won at number six singles, 7-6, 7-5, against the Lumberjacks' Berlin Powell.

"We have a few things to work on before we head to Vegas and we know that sometimes people have off days. We will prepare for Vegas and get the job done," Wright said.

The Aggies will continue action Saturday and Sunday, February 21-22, in Las Vegas for two matches against Las Vegas and UC Riverside.
