With a 10-run inning, Utah State softball picked up its second win over Boise State in as many days, topping the Broncos, 10-9 in game two of the weekend series Friday.

With the win, Utah State improves to 18-36 on the year, with a 10-13 Mountain West. With the 10 conference wins, the Aggies have earned the most wins in league play in 17 seasons, matching the 10-18 record by the 1998 squad. With the loss, Boise State falls to 12-41 overall and 4-19 in Mountain West action.

Several Aggies had strong performances at the plate Friday, as senior outfielder Hailey Froton, senior shortstop Jolene Koons and sophomore pitcher Alleyah Armendariz each hit 2-for-4, with a combined five runs and four RBI. Junior designated player/pitcher Noelle Johnson went 2-for-2 on the day, scoring once while batting in two additional runs. Armendariz pitched the majority of the game, picking up her second win of the season, while Johnson relieved her in the seventh inning for her third save of the year.

All 10 of Utah State's runs were scored in the third inning, the highest-scoring inning of the season. Senior outfielder Amburlyn Orozco led-off the inning as she was hit by a pitch, then advancing to second on a wild pitch. Froton followed with a double to score Orozco. A double from Johnson advanced Froton and Koons to home. Armendariz then walked, while sophomore first baseman Paxton Provost followed with a double to move Johnson across the plate. Freshman catcher Brina Buttacavoli then singled to score Armendariz. Sophomore second baseman Devin Montgomery was also hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Provost.

As the Aggies went up 5-0, The Broncos made a pitching change, putting Orozco out in her second at bat of the inning, while Buttacavoli was out at second. The Broncos followed with a wild pitch that moved senior third baseman Nicole Arata to home plate. Froton then singled to score Montgomery, while Koons and Johnson got on base with a walk and a hit from the pitcher, respectively. Armendariz followed with a double to right center, scoring Koons and Froton. With the 10-0 advantage, the top of the inning came to an end when Provost grounded out to the Boise State shortstop.

With one run in the bottom of the inning, the Broncos evaded the shutout. From there, the Boise State defense held the Aggies scoreless, as it attempted to catch up. With two additional runs in the bottom of the fourth, the Broncos also avoided a second run-ruled game.

Boise State's biggest inning was the sixth, where it added four runs, highlighted by a three-run home run. The Broncos then continued to put a scare in the USU defense as they scored two additional runs in the seventh on a two-run homer. Luckily for the Aggies, the defense came together for two quick ground outs, ending the game.

Utah State and Boise State will conclude the series, as well as the 2015 season, Saturday afternoon. First pitch from Boise is set for 2 p.m.
