UTAH STATE MEN'S BASKETBALL
Post-Game Quotes
vs. UNLV - Jan. 19, 2016
Utah State Head Coach Tim Duryea:
"Obviously we were encouraged at halftime, and thought we did a lot of good things and had a first half we could build on. And then, similar to the San Diego State game, just the start of the second half was unexplainable. We dug ourselves a hole and really did it to ourselves. We did not do a good job passing and catching against their pressure. You can't turn the ball over nine times against them and allow them to shoot 60 percent, which a lot of that percentage is due to the fact that we turned the ball over and got them out in transition.
"We talked a lot about live ball turnovers, we can't have them against them, they're too good at converting when they have numbers and they have space in transition. So just not a good enough second half offensively to give ourselves a chance. We got way down, got it back within 10 and could not get the deficit really inside of 10. We hurried a little bit mid-second half or so on some possessions, took some questionable shots and kind of lost our way."
Utah State Senior Guard Chris Smith:
"The first half we competed, but in the second half, the first four minutes we didn't play like we normally do and just turned the ball over and dug ourselves a really big hole."
Utah State Senior Guard Darius Perkins:
"The whole game was a tough physical basketball game. In the second half, we basically traded baskets, and that really hurt us. We had them where we wanted them, but we have to make better plays and take better shots in the second half. We turned the ball over too many times and gave them too many transition baskets."
UNLV Interim Head Coach Todd Simon:
"I am very happy with the guys from top to bottom. We still competed well in the first half, but it wasn't quite what we needed in order to create separation. We've got to do better defending, especially in the middle part of the court. In the second half, our guys knew exactly what they needed to do, and they executed that plan."
