LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Utah State men's tennis junior Kai Wehnelt lost in the finals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region Tournament on Sunday, snapping a 10-match winning streak for the Berlin, Germany, native.

In the finals, Wehnelt squared off against UNLV's Jakob Amilon, the No. 124-ranked singles player in the country, and fell in a competitive match, 6-4, 6-3. The match marked the first time an Aggie had competed in the finals of the tournament in program history.

"Unfortunately, Kai came up a little short today, but a lot of credit goes to his opponent who played very well," said USU head coach James Wilson. "He was able to make it a close match, but had trouble holding serve. It was still an incredible run for him and was a valuable learning experience.

"Hopefully next time he is on that stage, he can come through and play with conviction," he continued. "I'm looking forward to next weekend when we compete in San Diego against some tough competition."

Action continues for the Aggies at the San Diego Hidden Dual, starting on Friday, Oct. 28.
