Midland, Texas/Laguna Niguel, Calif. – Utah State freshman Isaac Arevalo Gómez will be competing for the singles championship tomorrow as day two of the Midland Invitational wrapped up on Saturday. 

"Isaac really showed a lot of toughness and I've been impressed with his maturity all weekend," said third-year head coach James Wilson. "Tomorrow, will be a tough match and I'm looking forward to seeing how he competes against a conference rival."

In singles, Arevalo defeated UTSA's Kai Breitbach 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Arevalo Gómez won the first set over Tyler Junior College's Marcus Walters 6-4, but Walters forced a third and deciding set for a shot at moving to the championship. Arevalo wasn't fazed though, as he cruised through the third set, winning 6-2. It will be an all-MW final as Arevalo Gómez will face New Mexico's Dominic West.

In the singles consolation first round, freshman Rithvik Bollipalli edged out a win in the third set, defeating UTSA's Javier Gonzales 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. Sophomore Jose Carvajal beat UTSA's Joao Cellin 7-5, 6-3. The second round for Bollipalli was no different, as he went on to beat SMU's Rory Samuels 6-3, 6-0, while junior Duro Opacic won in straight sets against Andrew Buhelos of SMU 6-1, 7-5.

In the doubles quarterfinals, Carvajal and Bollipalli lost to Tyler Junior College's Marcus Walters and Alexander Parkerwon 8-5. 

At the ITF Futures Tournament, sophomore Felipe Acosta was at his winning ways once again as he beat UC Irvine's Daniel Gealer 6-4, 6-1 in the round of 64. 

Action resumes on Sunday as the Aggies will continue to compete in both singles and doubles.
