LOGAN, Utah – Utah State's track & field teams will travel to Nampa, Idaho, this weekend to compete at the Boise State-hosted Jackson's/Nike Boise Indoor Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2.
The Aggies competed at the Ford Idaho Center earlier this year at the Bronco Invite and collected 11 event titles and 53 top-five finishes.
So far this year, senior thrower Brenn Flint has finished in at least second place in all three meets in the shot put, including a first-place toss of 15.91 meters (52-2.50) at the season-opening Bronco Invite. Junior Maia Garren has finished in the top four in all three competitions, including placing first in the shot put with a mark of 15.57 meters (51-1.00) at the Montana State Dual Meet.
The women distance runners have also had a strong early season, as senior Cierra Simmons-Mecham broke her own school record in the 3,000-meter race last week, while senior Alyssa Snyder and junior Grace Gibbons now rank ninth and 10th in the 3,000 meters, respectively.
Sophomore Bailee Parker improved her 5,000-meter time, which is currently sixth on USU's all-time list, while senior Presli Hutchison is now 10th on the all-time list in the 5,000 meters. The distance medley relay quartet of Simmons-Mecham, senior Megan Ryan, junior Melanie Muncy and sophomore Karen Christensen recorded a program indoor record time of 11:37.89 at last week's UW Invitational.
In the field, senior Jennifer Christensen landed herself in the all-time top-10 list on the high jump, clearing 1.75 meters (5-8.75) two weeks ago at the MSU Dual Meet. Sophomore Bailey Maseda is now ranked ninth in USU history in the triple jump after her personal-best leap of 11.43 meters (37-6.00) at the same meet.
On the men's side, junior Luke Beattie is one of two male athletes to appear in the top-20 this season in the NCAA as he is ranked 15th in the 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 14:08.78, while senior Sam Nelson sits 16th in the pole vault with a personal-best mark of 5.25 meters (17-6.50). Senior James Withers also performed well in Seattle at the Washington Invitational, as his 5,000-meter time of 14:19.61 put him behind Beattie for fourth all-time in the 5,000. Junior Luke Bailey is coming off a stellar performance in the 3,000-meter run, as he sits third on the all-time indoor program list with a time of 8:06.20 after his performance at the Washington Invitational.
The Aggies are very comfortable in Nampa, as Karen Christensen won the 600-meter run at the Bronco Invite, while senior Katie Struthers and sophomore Bailee Parker took the mile and 3,000-meter crown, respectively. In the field, Jennifer Christensen claimed the high jump title at the same meet.
