LOGAN, Utah – Utah State volleyball (0-14, 0-2 MW) opens its week of home matches on Thursday, Oct. 3, when it hosts San José State (5-8, 0-2 MW) in a 7 p.m. contest.
All 2019 Mountain West matches, along with all of Utah State's home matches, will be broadcast as a USU Athletics Production on the Mountain West Network. All video feeds will be available live and in archive form at utahstateaggies.com/watch. Live stats will also be provided by SIDEARM for all home games, while road contests will also have live stats available. Links to each option will be available online prior to every game. In-game updates will also be provided through the team's social media outlets.
San José State opens the week with a 5-8 overall record. The Spartans went 0-2 in its first week of Mountain West play, dropping a road contest at San Diego State (3-2) and a home match against Fresno State (3-0). As a team, SJSU is hitting .192 (585-279-1,597). Senior middle blocker Thaliana Grajeda is hitting a team-best .341 (79-18-179), while sophomore middle Haylee Nelson leads the team with 3.12 kills per set. Sophomore setter Mamie Garard is averaging 5.78 assists per set. Defensively, sophomore libero Sarah Smevog leads SJSU with 4.08 digs per set, while Graje da averages a team-high 0.75 blocks per set.
Utah State is hitting .127 (475-266-1,646) on the season. Sophomore middle blocker Corinne Larsen leads the team attack, hitting .195 (69-28-210). Senior setter Heidi Carpenter is averaging 7.09 assists per set, while freshman libero Grace DuBay is adding a team-high 3.10 digs per set. Junior middle Bailey Downing is the leading blocker for the Aggies, averaging 1.14 per set.
