LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's tennis (6-3, 0-0 MW) continues its 2019 season this weekend in Des Moines, Iowa, as it faces Grand View (0-0) and Drake (4-3) on Friday, Feb. 15, at noon at 5 p.m. (MT), respectively, and Indiana (4-4) on Sunday, Feb. 17, at noon (MT).
In singles, the Aggies are led by sophomores Felipe Acosta, who is 7-1, and Jose Carvajal, who is 5-1. In doubles, junior Sergiu Bucur and freshman Rithvik Bollipalli Carvajal are 3-2, while Acosta and freshman Isaac Arevalo Gómez sit at 2-0.
USU and Grand View, an NAIA school in Des Moines, Iowa,, have met once before on January, 2016, in Des Moines, as the Aggies swept the match, 7-0.
Utah State and Drake (4-3) have also squared off once before in 2016, as Drake won the match, 5-2. In singles, senior Vinny Gillespie is 6-0, while fellow senior Tom Hands is 5-1. In doubles, seniors Calum MacGeoch and Ben Clark lead the Bulldogs with a 3-0 mark, while Gillespie and junior Barny Thorold, who are ranked No. 43 in doubles by the ITA, are 3-3.
This will be the first meeting between USU and Indiana as the Hoosiers are 4-4 on the season. The Hoosiers are led by freshman Carson Haskins, who is 5-2, while the doubles team of sophomore Haskins and and junior Bennett Crane are 4-3 at the second doubles position.
