LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men's tennis (9-4, 0-0 MW), back from a week and a half hiatus, returns to Logan and hosts Denver (5-3, 1-0 Summit) on Friday, March 1, at 2 p.m., at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club.
"Denver poses a definite challenge and I think it will be a tough test," said head coach James Wilson. "They beat us last year and our guys know they are strong. Hopefully, we can come out strong and set the tone early."
In singles, the Aggies are led by sophomores Felipe Acosta who is 9-2, and Jose Carvajal who is 7-1. In doubles, junior Sergiu Bucur and freshman Rithvik Bollipalli 6-4, while Acosta and freshman Isaac Arevalo Gómez sit at 3-1. Recently, the Aggies were ranked No. 50 by SLAM Tennis as they were previously 53rd in last week's poll.
Utah State is 1-3 against Denver, as the Pioneers have lost their last three matches. The Pioneers are 5-3, most notably falling to BYU, 5-2, in Provo on Saturday, Feb. 23. In singles play, senior Ignatius Castelino is a perfect 8-0, sophomore Mattia Ros is 6-2, sophomores James Davis and Matt Summers are both 5-3, junior Pedro Fernandez Del Valle is 5-4 and freshman Daniel Krulih is 4-4 and . In doubles, Ros and Del Valle, as well as Krulig and sophomore Eric Morris are 6-1, and Davis and Summers are 6-2.
