LOGAN, Utah – Utah State freshman Isaac Arevalo Gómez has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Mountain Region Rookie of the Year, it was announced on Saturday. The Mountain region is comprises of 18 teams.
The Mazatlan, Mexico, earned all-Mountain West singles honors and became the first Aggie in program history to earn Mountain West Freshman of the Year, as he posted a 19-16 overall singles record, including a 12-12 mark in dual matches and 2-3 against Mountain West competition playing exclusively at the No. 1 spot.
Arevalo Gómez became the highest ranked Aggie of all-time when he came in at No. 111 in the ninth week of the ITA singles rankings on March 5. He defeated then-25th ranked Joseph Guillin of UCSB, marking the highest ranked opponent an Aggie has defeated in program history.
During the fall, Arevalo Gómez defeated New Mexico's Dominic West 6-2, 6-3, in the singles final at the Midland Invitational in Midland, Texas, becoming the first Aggie since Tomas Cosmai in 2014 to capture a fall tournament title.
