LOGAN, UTAH – Former Utah State men's tennis player Jaime Barajas will take part in the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Player Development Coaching Fellowship Coaching summer program, which begins Monday, June 24 and runs through the 2019 US Open (September 8).
The fellowship program is structured to provide significant experiential training and opportunity for independent research in the field of professional tennis coaching. The program is based out of the USTA National Campus at Lake Nona in Orlando, Fla., and includes traveling with a coaching mentor.
"Being given the opportunity to work with the USTA this summer means a lot to me," Barajas said. "I have always wanted to be involved with tennis players, and having this chance to help others on and off the court is amazing."
The native of Woodland Hills, Calif., was a volunteer assistant coach for the Aggies during the 2018-19 season, where he helped guide USU to a 19-9 record, including 6-1 in Mountain West play.
Barajas remains the all-time wins leader in program history with 152 combined singles and doubles win, and is also first in dual match singles wins (59), total singles wins (89) and dual match doubles wins (49). As a sophomore, he was named the 2016 Mountain West Player of the Year and an all-Mountain West honoree in singles after posting a 24-9 overall record, including a 15-7 mark in dual matches and a perfect 5-0 record against Mountain West opponents while playing exclusively at the No. 1 spot.
Barajas also earned two all-conference accolades in singles and one in doubles, while also collecting seven MW player of the week honors.
