LOGAN, Utah – Despite a close second set, Utah State volleyball fell to Boise State, 3-0, in the first Mountain West match of the season Tuesday.
After the Broncos took the first set, 25-18, the Aggies fought back in the second. USU led for much of the set, and was first to reach set point before suffering a 28-26 loss. Boise State took control again later to win the third set, 25-14.
With the loss, Utah State sits at 0-13 on the year, while Boise State improves to 9-3.
The Aggie attack was spread across the court, with five players recording three or more kills. Sophomore middle blocker
Corinne Larsen had a team-high six kills, hitting .333 in the match. Late in the contest, the Aggies experimented with a 6-2 rotation, with senior
Heidi Carpenter and freshman
Kalena Vaivai sharing time at setter.
Utah State tallied more blocks than its opponent for the seventh time this season, tallying nine to Boise State's eight. Senior opposite side hitter
Izzie Belnap led the team with four blocks, including her first two block solos of the season.
In all, USU hit .141 (26-13-92) to Boise State's .261 (50-20-115).
Utah State returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 26, when it plays at Air Force (3-9, 0-0 MW) at 6:30 p.m.
