Box Score 2 PORTLAND, Ore. – Utah State volleyball opened play at the North Portland Marriott Invitational with a pair of losses Friday, falling to Washington State in four sets and Idaho in three.
Washington State dominated the match early on, taking the first sets, 25-8 and 25-12. The Aggies fought back to take the fourth set, 29-27, but dropped the fourth set, 25-18.
Utah State continues to seek its first win of the year, ending Friday with an 0-6 record.
After a slow start, the Aggies were able to get back to a positive hitting percentage (30-25-122). Freshman outside hitter
Madi Brunatti led the attack, hitting .171 and matching her season-high with 11 kills. Freshman setter
Kalena Vaivai made her first collegiate appearance against the Cougars, tallying 20 assists. Redshirt freshman defensive specialist
Cassandra DuBose also made her first appearance as an Aggie in the match.
The Aggies returned to the court to take on Idaho later that afternoon, where the Vandals swept the match, 25-18, 25-15 and 25-17. USU scored first in each set and the teams traded leads frequently, but the Aggies were never able to build up momentum.

Bailey Downing led Utah State against Idaho, hitting .389 (7-3-18) and adding three blocks. Senior setter
Heidi Carpenter finished the match with 24 assists.
Utah State will continue play at the North Portland Marriott Invitational tomorrow, taking on host-Portland at 2 p.m. (MT).
