SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah State's men's and women's cross country teams captured the top spots at the Utah Open on Thursday at Sunnyside Park.
Sophomore
Ben Berlin clocked a time of 19:13.5 over the 6-kilometer course to lead a 2-3-4-5-6 finish for No. 24 Utah State, which won the meet with 15 points. Utah Valley finished second with 46 points.
On the women's side of the slate, sophomore
Camilla McKinstry placed third with a time of 18:47.5 in the 5K race, helping the Aggies finish with 22 points and beat both Utah Valley (38 points) and Salt Lake Community College (100 points).
Utah State's team victories marked the fourth of the season for the men and the third for the women.
Berlin was followed by freshman
Logan Garnica (19:14.3) in third, freshman
Eli Gregory (19:26.3) in fourth, sophomore
Caleb Armstrong (19:32.0) in fifth and freshman
Grady Mylander (19:50.2) in sixth.
The Aggie women had three runners finish in the top five as freshman
Carissa Hofeling (18:53.4) followed McKinstry by placing fourth and senior
Abigail Gray (19:04.1) captured fifth.
That trio was joined by freshman
Malia Lowe (19:16.6) and junior
Claire Mantz-Chugg (19:25.2) who rounded out Utah State's scoring five by taking eighth and ninth, respectively.
The Utah Open marked the Aggies' last regular-season meet.
UP NEXT: Utah State opens the postseason with the Mountain West Championships on Friday, Oct. 28, in Laramie, Wyoming. The women's 6K will begin at 10:15 a.m., while the men's 8K is slated to start at 11 a.m.
