LOGAN, Utah – And the undefeated season rolls on.
Utah State's men's basketball team improved to 9-0 on the season with a dominating 106-68 non-conference victory over Westminster on Thursday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
The Aggies' 9-0 start is tied for the best start in program history, joining the 1917-18 and 1938-39 teams. Utah State has just four more non-conference games on the slate before turning its full attention to Mountain West play.
Utah State set a school-record with 21 made 3-pointers, breaking the previous mark of 20 made treys set during the 2005-06 season at New Mexico State. USU also attempted 37 treys, which is a season-high, and tied for the second-most in school history along with the 2018-19 team that attempted 37 treys vs. San José State.
Six Aggies scored in double figures, led by a career-high 28 points from sophomore forward
Zee Hamoda, including a career-high six three-pointers, a career-high four steals and a career-high-tying three assists. Sean guard
Sean Bairstow had 16 points, a career-high six assists and five rebounds.
Hamoda only missed two shots from the field on the night as he was 10-for-12, including 6-for-7 from beyond the arc. He also made two of his three attempts from the free throw line.
Other Utah State players to score in double figures included junior guard
Steven Ashworth and senior guard
RJ Eytle-Rock with 17 points apiece, junior guard
Max Shulga with 11 points, and grad senior forward
Dan Akin with 10 points.
Shulga had eight assists for the Aggies, who had 24 assists on 38 made field goals.
Utah State shot a sizzling 60.9 percent overall (39-of-64) and 56.8 percent from 3-point range (21-of-37) as a team.
Taylor Miller led the Griffins with 26 points and Cole Kadoguchi added 12. Westminster shot 46.2 percent from the field (24-of-52), including 45.5 percent from beyond the arc (5-of-11), and 93.8 percent from the charity stripe (15-of-16).
