OREM, Utah – Utah State softball (25-21, 10-5 Mountain West) lost 3-2 to Utah Valley (19-20, 9-9 WAC) following a seventh-inning Wolverine comeback on Wednesday.
The Aggies took a 2-0 lead after scoring a couple of runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Freshman shortstop
Ariel Lopez got the scoring started after she reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on a single from sophomore second baseman
Zaia Castruita. Lopez scored the first run of the day on a sacrifice bunt from junior first baseman
Makenzie Macfarlane. Castruita would then score Utah State's second run on a UVU error.
USU continued to hold the 2-0 lead until Utah Valley rallied late in the bottom of the seventh for the 3-2 walk-off win.
Senior
Kapri Toone pitched a complete game for the Aggies, striking out three batters and walking three during her time in the circle.
Utah State returns to Logan to host Boise State (31-10, 10-5 MW) on Friday, April 29, at 4 p.m., Saturday, April 30, at noon, and Sunday, May 1, at noon.
