LOGAN, Utah – Utah State softball (25-22, 10-6 Mountain West) lost 8-4 to Boise State (32-10, 11-5 MW) on Friday at LaRee & LeGrand Johnfield Field.
After a lead-off Bronco homer in the top of the first, USU sophomore second baseman
Zaia Castruita recorded a three-run blast to right center in the bottom of the frame to give the Aggies the 3-1 edge.
Boise State scored two runs in the top of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to hold a 7-3 advantage.
Utah State scored one more run in the bottom of the sixth after senior shortstop
Lexi Orozco doubled through the right side, advanced to third on a USU groundout and scored on an RBI single from freshman designated player
Taryn Edds.
The Broncos scored once more in the top of the seventh to pull away with the 8-4 win.
Senior
Kapri Toone made the start in the circle for the Aggies, striking out two batters in her 4.0 innings of work. Freshman
Mia Reynolds relieved Toone in the top of the fifth, recording one strikeout and one walk in her 3.0 innings pitched.
Due to Sunday's weather forecast, Utah State and Boise State will now play a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game will take place at noon with the second game set to follow right after.
