LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's basketball (8-1, 0-0 MW) eclipsed the century mark for the second time this season and extended its win streak to seven with a 108-81 victory over San Diego (6-4, 0-0 WCC) on Wednesday night.
Four Aggies scored in double figures in the victory in redshirt freshman Mason Falslev with 17, junior wing Great Osobor with 14, senior guard Ian Martinez with 13 and sophomore forward Nigel Burris with a season-high 10 off the bench.
In the first half, USU shared the ball to build a 53-36 lead by halftime. The Aggies went on a 13-0 run, starting with a dunk from redshirt sophomore center Isaac Johnson, to go up 23-12 with 12 minutes remaining in the half. Utah State would trade buckets and outscore the Toreros 30-24 over the rest of the first half with accurate offense, shooting 65.6 percent (21-of-32) over the first 20 minutes.
USU continued its hot shooting night as the Aggie offense put up 55 second-half points, spearheaded by a 24-8 run over eight minutes in the middle part of the second half. The run boosted Utah State's advantage to 37 points, 103-66, with four minutes remaining for the Aggies' largest lead of the matchup. Utah State continued its unselfish play as all 13 Aggies that got on the court scored at least two points.
Four Toreros scored in double figures with junior guard Deuce Turner leading the way with 17 points.
Overall, USU shot 59.7 percent (40-of-67) from the field, 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from behind the arc and 69.7 percent (23-of-33) at the free throw line. San Diego shot 47.6 percent (30-of-63) from the floor, 37.5 percent (9-of-24) from deep and 75.0 percent (12-of-16 at the free throw line.
Utah State next hosts Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m., inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
