FULLERTON, Calif. – A big 12-run fifth inning cost Utah State softball (2-3) a 13-0 loss to Cal (5-0) on Sunday morning.
Neither team recorded a hit through the first two innings, but a USU fielding error in the top of the third would end up giving the Bears a 1-0 edge.
Sophomore shortstop
Ariel Fifita recorded the Aggies' lone hit of the day with a single to third base in the bottom of the third, but Utah State was unable to even the score to trail 1-0 heading into the fourth.
After both teams went down in order in the fourth frame, Cal scored 12 runs on seven hits in the top of the fifth. The Aggies were unable to make a comeback in the bottom of the inning, losing 13-0.

Mia Reynolds made the start, striking out two batters in 4.0 innings of work. Senior

Hailey McLean, Sydney Saldaña and
Tess Bumiller each made appearances in the fifth.
USU is back in action at the Saint Mary's Tournament from Friday, Feb. 17, to Sunday, Feb. 19. The Aggies will face a field of three teams, taking on UC San Diego (3-1), on Friday, Feb. 17, at 12:30 p.m. (MT), and Sunday, Feb. 19, at 10 a.m. (MT), Saint Mary's (1-3) on Friday, Feb. 17, at 3 p.m. (MT), and Saturday, Feb. 18, at 11 a.m. (MT), and San José State (0-4) on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 5 p.m. (MT).
