LOGAN, Utah – Former Utah State Aggie
Dan Akin has signed his first professional contract, joining SIG Strasbourg of the LNB Pro A. Located in Strasbourg, France, the SIG Strasbourg team was 17-17 in 2022-23 and ended its season in the Basketball Champions League quarterfinals.
Akin, the reigning Mountain West Sixth Man of the Year, landed on a pair of single-season record lists during his time with the Aggies, including second in field goal percentage, shooting 67.0 percent (146-of-218) from the field, and tied for third in games played (35). The native of London, England, averaged 12.0 points and a team-best 6.8 rebounds per game, and shot 70.0 percent (126-of-180) at the free throw line. He was one of four Aggies to have multiple 20-point outings and scored in double figures 24 times, including six double-doubles. Akin had double-figure rebounds six times, including a season-best 15 rebounds twice. He also finished third on the team with 24 blocks.
Before arriving at Utah State, Akin played in 34 games and made 33 starts at Cal Baptist during the 2021-22 season, averaging 10.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. He led the Lancers on the glass and ranked second in the Western Athletic Conference in both total rebounds and rebounds per game. Akin shot 53.3 percent (112-of-210) from the floor and logged the most free throws of anyone on the team, totaling 205 attempts and making 142.
Prior to Cal Baptist, Akin appeared in 91 games, making 61 starts, at UMBC. He was named to the 2017-18 America East All-Rookie Team and was a member of the all-tournament team. Akin scored the opening basket in UMBC's historic NCAA Tournament victory over top-seeded Virginia during the 2017-18 season.
