SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah State's women's cross country team concluded their regular season with a team victory at the Utah Open on Thursday. USU also sent three individual men's runners to the event, each of them earning top-30 finishes.
Utah State's women's team accumulated 28 points en route to their first-place finish in the 5K race. Junior
Elizabeth Phillips paced the Aggies with a time of 19:00.84, good for a third-place finish overall. A trio of runners joined her in the top 10, with sophomore
Caroline Moon finishing in sixth place with a time of 19:18.27, sophomore
Cameron Moore placing ninth with a time of 19:20.00, and junior
Malia Lowe rounding out the top 10 with a time of 19:22.60. Freshman
Jane Williams completed the scoring for USU, clocking in at 19:33.03 for an 18th-place finish. The Aggies topped runners from No. 6 Utah and Utah Valley in their victory, the women's fourth victory in eight meets this season.
USU also had three runners participate in the men's 8K race. Senior
Caleb Armstrong led this trio of Aggies with an eighth-place finish, clocking in at 26:19.36. Sophomore
Drew Hogan followed him with a 13th-place finishing time of 26:32.18, and freshman
Luke Stockett added a 27th-place finish with a time of 27:15.08. Salt Lake Community College won the team event with a best-possible team score of 15.
Utah State will head to the Mountain West Championships in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on Friday, Nov. 1. The No. 19 Utah State men enter the championships as the second-highest ranked squad in the conference behind only No. 6 New Mexico, while the women will look to contend with defending champions Colorado State and No. 8 New Mexico, winners of 15 straight titles from 2008-2022.
